Our Brand
The word «avellum» derives from the letter «A» (Alpha) and the word «vellum».
Alpha (uppercase A, lowercase α; Greek: Αλφα) is the first letter of the Greek alphabet. Alpha, both as a symbol and term, is used to refer to or describe a variety of things, including the first or most significant occurrence of something. In addition, «A» stands for A-class services and Absolute top quality.
Vellum (from the Old French Vélin, for «calfskin») is mammal skin prepared for writing or printing on, to produce single pages, scrolls, codices or books. In Europe, from Roman times, the term vellum was used for the best quality of prepared skin. Vellum can be far more durable than paper. For this reason, many important documents are written on animal vellum, such as diplomas. British Acts of Parliament are still printed on vellum for archival purposes, as are those of the Republic of Ireland. Most of the finer sort of medieval manuscripts, whether illuminated or not, were written on vellum. Some brands of writing-paper and other sorts of paper use the term «vellum» merely to suggest quality.
In the context of Our Firm, Vellum denotes our commitment to conservative legal
traditions and stability.
We are truly internationally local since we use top international standards in our legal practice. Moreover, most of our lawyers have been trained at international law firms, which enables us to use best international practices in our work. At the same time, we have an in-depth knowledge of local environment and always take a business-oriented approach. We strive to bring the most advanced Western methods and practices, which, coupled with our knowledge of Ukrainian and English, broad industry experience, and unparalleled level of service, regularly helps our clients achieve best results in their business endeavours.
Corporate Responsibility
We understand our social responsibility and our obligations towards the next generation of attorneys. The partners in our firm participated in the international moot court competitions for many years, first as contestants, and then, as coaches and judges on Ukrainian and international scale. The competitions judged by our partners include the national competitions in Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, United States of America and also the judging of the international rounds of these competitions.
We support Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Competition and Telders International Law Moot Court Competition in Ukraine. We also do our best to promote the adherence to the principles of the supremacy of the law among the Ukrainian law students.
Our firm also encourages the best participants of the moot court competitions to apply for positions with our firm. The application instructions, selection criteria and procedures are described in the Career section.
We also acted as a general partner of the first international youth forum “Leadership in Law”, which was held on 13 November 2011 at the Academy of Advocacy of Ukraine (the “Forum”). The aim of the Forum was to provide law students with an insight into the legal profession, basics of legal business, and an overview of current legal market of Ukraine. Students taking part in the Forum had an opportunity to interact with best Ukrainian legal professionals, who shared their practical experience and stories of their success.
In January 2012 we joined the initiative on ethical business conduct by signing the Declaration on Responsible Partnership (the “Declaration”). According to the Declaration, the companies-signatories undertake to work primarily with partners and suppliers, who conduct their business transparently and fairly, comply with human rights, including in the area of labor relationships, and adhere to standards of environmental protection. The Declaration was initiated by Centre for corporate social responsibility (CSR) development under support of UNITER Project and the Embassy of Norway in Ukraine. In total, the Declaration was signed by 18 leading companies and organizations in Ukraine.
